We surprised these birds from their comfy roosts within a rocky outcropping in Ken Caryl Canyon, and managed to snap some action photos with the new camera. Glad they made us look UP. (Is there a bird expert out there who can tell me what kind of birds these are?)

With all the driving I do in my poor overworked little car, nothing changes faster than this odometer. Fortunately, I caught this palindromic reading as soon as I started the car today. Knowing I would never have this chance again, I decided wherever I was going could wait, and ran back into the house for my camera.

The leaves of spring now lost and faded,
Colors waning, green gone jaded.
Now give way to colors new, yellow, red and autumn hues.
Once fresh and living, now gone dry, tumbling from our autumn sky.
Now the leaves have turned to fall, carbon footprints, one and all.

Charlotte’s Web, the classic children’s story about Wilbur the pig and his spider friend, Charlotte, turned 60 yesterday. I remember reading this book night after night at our kid’s bedtime, making up different voices for all the characters, and all of us crying when (spoiler alert) Charlotte dies. Fortunately, I was able to capture some photos of Charlotte’s descendant for the anniversary. Thanks E.B. White for your poignantly endearing tale.
